Today marks the 7th day of our 31 days of British Snack Reviews. So far we have reviewed a range of chocolates and crisps from England including some new found favorites, all of which will be included in our international snack store set to launch January 1st. To celebrate our 1 week anniversary we are going to try our very first blind taste test. We are going to decide if which is better, the British Kit Kat or the American Kit Kat. Before we dive into our review and blind taste test let’s take a look at the history of Kit Kat. This delicious wafer covered chocolate bar is almost always believed to be an American snack here in the US. Well guess what, it’s really an old English snack. Kit Kat was initially developed by the English Brand Rowntree back in 1935. It instantly became a hit and stayed under the Rowntree’s brand name until the company was purchased by Nestle in 1988. Prior to be sold to Nestle, Rowntree licensed Kit Kat to Hershey. Today license is valid until/if Hershey is sold and is one of the top 5 brands they currently hold. Now we understand why there is a difference between the British Kit Kat and the American Kit Kat. Let’s get on to our blind taste test and see which of the two sweet treats will be declared the winner! Our taste test panel for our comparison of the British Kit Kat vs American Kit Kat is comprised of 11 American adult males that range in age from 25-35. In the US this is the second most snack purchasing demographic, only surpassed by younger adult males. Several of the subjects have traveled internationally but none of the subjects have previously tried the British version of this chocolate bar. All of the subjects are familiar with the US Kit Kat. Prior to the test we removed the bars from their wrappers and broken them into bite size pieces. Upon removal we noticed the very difference in chocolate color but none of the subjects could determine which was which from its appearance. The only other noticeable difference was the logo treatment stamped into the bar. Now onto the results of our comparison.
Now that we have settled one of the great international snack debates you need to try this for yourself at home. Starting January 1st we will sell the British Kit Kat with shipping to anywhere in the world. Starting February 1st we will do the same with the American Kit Kat. If you leave your details to the right we will offer our newsletter subscribers an exclusive package for sale with both these snacks and others to compare for yourself. We are having a ton of fun this month at World of Snacks as we review 31 British Snacks leading up to the launch of our international candy store. We are nearly 1 week in and so far we have sampled some really delicious candies and crisps from England. Our snack under review today is the first that didn’t surpass our expectations. Let’s take a look at the Cadbury Curly Wurly Bar and see why. The candy bar under review today is long and narrow. It comes in a white foil wrapper that is end capped with a purple that matches the Cadbury logo. There are some multicolor letters that appear to be shaking down the length of the bar. Overall it’s a simple but effective presentation. So now we know what the Cadbury Curly Wurly Bar looks like, let’s see how it tastes. Our review panel consists of two taste testers today and both immediately came to the same conclusion. The Cadbury Curly Wurly Bar is actually hard to eat. The bar is a “ladder” of caramel wrapped in delightful Cadbury milk chocolate. The problem, the caramel is so chewy that you need to really make an effort to finish this British Chocolate Bar. In addition the chocolate falls apart in your hand as you attempt the nearly impossible feat of eating it. Overall the flavor of the caramel is rather tasty and combined with the milk chocolate this snack should “wow” us like our previous reviews from England. It just falls a little short. This being said there is an American caramel snack that is nearly impossible eat that I personally enjoy, it’s called a Sugar Daddy. That helps me understand why there is such a following for the Cadbury Curly Wurly Bar and I appreciate what it is. If you are one of the faithful snack enthusiasts who enjoy the Cadbury Curly Wurly Bar you will be able buy this chocolate bar and other British Snacks in the US in our international snack store starting January 1st. Each month following we will introduce a new country and their top snacks into our inventory with hopes to eventually offer all the best snacks in the world online. To receive special deals and updates be sure to leave your details to the right. Don’t forget to check back tomorrow as we look at another snack from England. 01/01/2014 UPDATE: The Cadbury Curly Wurly is now available for purchase online in our international store. We are 5 days into our 31 days of British Snack reviews! All of the snacks featured this month on our international snack blog will be offered for sale when our online store launches on January 1st! Each month following we will add a new country and their unique snacks to our inventory and re-stock and grow our selection of snacks already on our website. Today's featured British Snack is Walkers Quavers Cheese Flavor. Walkers dominates the crisps (or chips) market in England and makes up for about 48% of all crisps sold in the UK. Their parent company also owns FritoLay, so combined this is one of the greatest manufactures of chips in the world! World of Snacks will offer a variety of Walker Crisps in the US and shipped around the world. Out of all their offerings, the Walkers Quavers are the chip we were most excited to sample. Our UK snack under review comes in a shinny yellow bag that reads: “Quavers Light Curly Potato Snack Cheese Flavour.” Don't worry the word "Flavour" is not misspelled, that's how it's spelt in proper English. In addition there is a Walkers logo and a few scattered Quavers. Up top it also boasts there are only 88 calories, and that is quite a feat for a cheese-flavored chip. Enough with how it looks; how does the Walkers Quavers Cheese Flavor taste?
Want to buy Walkers Quavers Cheese Flavor? Don’t worry at the end of the month you will be able to! Tomorrow we continue our month long journey through British Snacks, be sure to check back and see what we will be reviewing. Also if you want to stay informed on our progress and as we add other countries be sure to leave your details to the right. 01/01/2014 UPDATE: Walkers Quavers are now available for purchase online in our international store. We are 4 days into our 31 consecutive British Snack reviews. For the entire month of December World of Snacks will be reviewing one treat from England every single day. Starting in January, you will be able to buy all of the British Snacks we are reviewing this month and have them shipped to you in the United States or anywhere in the world! Each month following we will add a new country and their treats to our online snack store. So let’s take a look at Fry’s Turkish Delight. Our British Snack that we are reviewing today comes in a small, slightly heavy, rectangle bar shape wrapped in a shinny light purple wrapper. It appears the brand is “Fry’s” if you rely solely on the first impression. We know from our previous look at Fry’s Peppermint Cream that Cadbury owns the brand and has so for quite sometime. Fry’s lengthy history and name recognition is probably the reason Cadbury decided to stick with the Fry’s distinction. Now that we know what this snack looks like, lets move onto the taste test.
If you’ve followed our progress over the past year you know this is where we conclude and decide if we will stock the snack in question as a part of our normal inventory. This month however, all snacks we are reviewing will be included in our inventory. In just a few weeks you will be able to buy Fry’s Turkish Delight online and have it shipped to you, no matter where you live. Since this is World of Snacks, we will be adding additional countries each month. If you’d like to see a particular country’s snacks included in our store be sure to vote here or send us a message. Also, leave your details to the right and we will keep you updated on our progress. 01/01/2014 UPDATE: The Turkish Delight is now available for purchase online in our international store. We are snacking our way all through England all month long. Every day in December we are reviewing a British Snack that you will be able to buy from our international snack store that is launching on January 1st. We are starting with England and each month following we will add a new country and their foreign snacks to our inventory. The British Snacks under review today is one I am personally fond of since I loved this English Crips flavor as a child when I lived in the UK. Let’s take a look at Mega Monster Munch Pickled Onion.
Upon first whiff this British Snack took me back. This unique flavor scent is powerful and I am not sure what Pickled Onions smells like, but Mega Monster Munch must be close. The chip texture is similar to a thick American Funyuns. If you have never sampled this American Snack don’t worry, it will be included in our US inventory starting on February 1st. The initial burst of flavor from Pickled Onion Monster Munch is overwhelming. It is strong and you almost only taste the pickle. Then the chip transforms into a smoother onion after taste. A few of our taste testers were apprehensive to try this UK snack but ultimately it won them all over. One thing is for certain, we have not encountered any snack from anywhere in the world that is similar to Mega Monster Munch Pickled Onion. We are looking forward to offering Mega Monster Munch Pickled Onion Crisps available to buy online in just a few weeks. We will stock three flavors of Mega Monster Munch in our US based snack warehouse and offering shipping all around the world. If you’d like to stay up-to-date and receive announcements when a new country is added to our inventory be sure to leave your details to the right. 01/01/2014 UPDATE: Monsters Munch Pickled Onion is now available to purchase online in our international store. It’s day 2 of our 31 days of British Snack Reviews. Yesterday we took a close look at the Nestle Walnut Whip. Today our international snack blog is reviewing Fry’s Peppermint Cream Dark Chocolate Bar. If you’ve been following along you know we are reviewing snacks from England that will be offered for sale in our international snack store that is set to launch on January 1st. We are currently reviewing all the British Snacks that will be offered for sale online. Next month we will feature another country and their snacks with a new country featured and added to our inventory every month in 2014. Now let’s take a look at Fry’s Peppermint Cream. This British Chocolate Bar comes in a minty green foil wrapper and reads: "Fry’s Peppermint Cream Rich Dark Chocolate with a Smooth Fondant Centre." The imagery makes us think this bar is aimed towards the adult snack market and appears fairly luxurious. Fry’s Candy Bars are one of the 1st candy bars ever and were initially offered in 1866. Although the bar is still branded Fry’s it is currently produced by British Snack Brand Cadbury. Now on to the taste test!
More importantly, you will be able to buy Fry’s Peppermint Cream online in only 29 days! Be sure to check back tomorrow as we review another British Snack that will be offered in our international snack store. To stay up-to-date with our additions to our snack store be sure to leave your details to the right. 01/01/2014 UPDATE: Fry's Peppermint Cream is now available for purchase online in our international store. Today is day one of our daily-posted month long review of British Snacks that will be offered for sale online in our international snack store. Previous to these most recent posts on our snack blog, we have been searching the world for the very best snacks in hopes to locate our inventory. Now that we have found snacks from England that will be sold here in the US and shipped worldwide, we are shifting gears and will be reviewing treats that you will be able to actually buy staring January 1st. The first British Snack review is the Nestle Walnut Whip.
Well after opening the package and seeing our sample has been smashed up a bit, it appears that we will be offering the Nestle Walnut Whip Vanilla. Well, that is what we think anyway. The chocolate is thick and the creamy filling is stark white. On top of this chocolate snack from England rest a whole walnut. The reason we are not 100% sure on the flavor is the white center is not overtly vanilla. The center of our Walnut Whip is more of a true cream but that may be by design. The chocolate itself is firm and very sweet. The outer shell reminded one of our testers of a chocolate bunny that you can buy around Easter. The walnut was a nice touch and even though I am not personally a fan of walnuts I did appreciate what it brought to the snack. Overall the Nestle Walnut Whip Vanilla (?) is a pleasant treat that is unmatched in the United States. Typically we end our snack review with a decision if World of Snacks will offer the reviewed snack as a part of our normal inventory when our online store launches. Well since we started that way that will not be necessary. We will conclude with yes you will be able to buy the Nestle Walnut Whip online in the very near future, 30 days to be exact! Be sure to check back tomorrow as we review our next British Snack. Don’t worry; we are also still searching for our inventory from other countries. Each month in 2014 World of Snacks will add a new country and their snacks to our store. To stay up-to-date with our progress leave your details to the right. 01/01/2014 UPDATE: The Nestle Walnut Whip is now available to purchase online in our international store. |
