Milka Marzipan Creme Review

5/30/2014

Comments

Today our international snack blog is reviewing a chocolate bar produced by German based and Austrian founded Milka.  This isn’t our first review of a Milka Chocolate Bar, earlier this year we took a close look at the Milka Oreo Cookie Bar and we absolutely loved it!  So what does World of Snacks think of the Milka Marzipan Crème Chocolate Bar?
First, what is Marzipan?  We thought we knew.  Our impression was that it’s Europe’s version of peanut butter, something that is oddly missing overseas.  We were greatly mistaken.  Marzipan is a sweet mixture made of sugar or honey and almond meal.  Now that’s out of the way, let’s take a closer look at Milka Marzipan Crème.

Milka Marzipan Creme
Milka produces a range of size of their chocolate bars.  You can get anything from extra small to massive.  Our sample of the Milka Marzipan Creme weighs in at 100 grams and is a big chocolate bar by American standards but is actually a medium sized candy bar according to Milka themselves.  Our bar is contained in a light purple wrapper and featured their trade mark logo and the company mascot, a purple cow.  To the right there is some German with the wordz “Marzipan An-Crème” easily translatable.  There’s also a picture of a few pieces of the chocolate bar and what we thought were peanuts. We now know they are almonds.  On to the taste test!

Marzipan Chocolate
After our last encounter with Milka chocolate we had high hopes for this snack.  Although never having Marzipan before we weren’t really sure what to expect.  We have been missing out!  Marzipan Crème is awesome and so is this Milka candy bar version.  The chocolate of course is fantastic.  Slight soft, milky, and smooth. The Marzipan is sweet, creamy, and hints towards amaretto.   Combined they are delightful.  The amount of Marzipan is exaggerated on the wrapper, but the amount provided in the actual chocolate bar is sufficient.
Earlier this year we launched our international snack store and each month in 2014 we are expanding to include a new country and their best snacks.  A few months back we added German Snacks and the Milka Marzipan Crème is one of the snacks we offer for sale online.  Check out the best snacks from around the world on our website and leave your details to the right if you want to stay in touch.  Keep on snacking world!

Milka Oreo Chocolate Review

At World of Snacks we dedicate a serious amount of time to locate the very best international snacks.  We then select the best of the best and offer them for sale in our international snack store hosted here in the United States with shipping to virtually everywhere.   Each month in 2014 we will expand our inventory by one country and include their best cookies, cakes, chips, and candies.  One of the added countries just a few months back was Germany.  Tonight we are going to take a closer look at our favorite German Chocolate Bar; we are doing a review of the Milka Oreo.
Milka Oreo Chocolate
Milka is and has been a much-loved European chocolatier since 1901.  Originating in Switzerland and then moving to Germany and later Austria, this leading chocolate brand is now owned by Modelez International, which was up until recent years called Kraft.  As if that wasn’t confusing enough, Milka is currently manufactured in Germany, Austria, Serbia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Romani, Brazil, Poland, Ukraine, and a couple of other countries.  We have decided to dub it a German brand because that is where the company’s famed originated and lasted the longest. Milka produces a variety of confectionery items and their chocolate Milka bar comes in an array of flavors including the one under review tonight, the Milka Oreo Chocolate.  Let’s take a closer look.
German Chocolate Bars
Our sample of the Milka Oreo Chocolate Bar is rather large and weights in at 100 grams. This is much larger than a typical American Chocolate Bar but we are very aware that Milka comes in several larger versions than this. The packaging is their trademark purple, has their mascot the purple cow, and has a photo of two chocolate pieces and an Oreo cookie with s splash of milk.  Overall we rather enjoy the presentation of this snack.  Let’s see if we will enjoy how it tastes!
Oreo and Milka Chocolate
To be honest we have been dying to try this German chocolate bar.  We imported a few cases directly from Germany and have sold most of them.  We had to move this review up the list before we sold out.  A side note, the US version of Milka (found in select stores) is not at all the same and is nowhere the same quality.  If you take your chocolate seriously do not make the mistake of confusing the two.  Now that is out of the way, the Milka Oreo Chocolate Bar is phenomenal!  The outer shell chocolate is soft, sweet, and decadent. The interior is powerful, creamy, and provides that trademark Oreo cookie crunch.  Combined they make one of our favorite chocolate bars from anywhere in the world!
Now that we’ve officially endorsed the Milka Oreo Chocolate Bar we advise you hurry and purchase one of your own.  We carry several versions of both the American and German Milka Bars in our international snack store and encourage you to browse our full selection of German Chocolate Bars.  If you’d like to be notified as we expand our online candy store we advise you to leave your details to the right, or if you are on a smart phone below.  Keep on snacking world!

Milka Choco-Swing Cookies

With our international snack blog we are searching the world for the very best snacks and providing reviews as well as locating inventory in preparation for the launch of our web-based global snack store.  Part of our review process is determining the origination of the snack and most of the time it's pretty straight forward.  On rare occasions some international snack brands make it slightly difficult to categorize it's country.  Our snack for review today is one such case.  So today our global snack blog heads to Switzerland, Austria, and/or Poland to review Milka Choco-Swing Cookies by Kraft.
Milka Choco-Swing Cookies
This is not the first time we have reviewed a snack offered by Kraft through their Milka label.  Previously we reviewed Milka Milkinis Chocolate Bars.  During our homework session researching that particular snack (manufactured in Poland) we determined that the creator was Swiss Chocolatier who was born in Germany.  So from our introduction the Milka brand was all ready pretty international.  To make things even more complicated the Milka Choco-Swing Cookies we are looking at now are made in Austria and ultimately the brand is owned by the world wide conglomerate, Kraft.  So we are going to ballpark this snack as being from Switzerland and if anyone can prove otherwise, we'd love to hear from you!  Now let's get onto the important stuff, the review of cookies, or as they are labeled, the Milka Choco-Swing Alpine Milk Chocolate & Biscuit.
Another key feature of our international snack reviews is the presentation and packaging.  Even though we do include detailed photos we generally like to paint a picture of the experience.  With this snack we are so eager to share the taste test that we are going to skip the wrapper and jump right in!
Choco-Swing Biscuits
The Milka Choco-Swing is a massive and thick candy bar/cookie that is outrageously delicious. It's comprised of several layers that include Alpine milk chocolate, a biscuit (or cookie in the US), chocolate cream, and a white cream.   The layers merge together to create one of the best sweet treats we have encountered. Each layer offers it's own distinct component, but they blend extremely well.  The chocolate shell is smooth and rich with a thin layer on top and a thicker base layer on bottom.  The cream filling provides a little sugar rush that is rounded out by the chocolate cream.  The cookie in the middle gives it a crisp crunch and supports all the other flavors and ingredients.  This Swiss snack did elude to another snack that we truly enjoyed recently, the Dr Gerard Choco Cool Cookies from Poland but between the two we prefer Milka's version.
Will World of Snack include Milka Choco-Swing Alpine Milk Chocolate & Biscuits when we launch or snack store later this year?  This snack, no matter it's origin will absolutely be included as a part of our normal inventory!  If you haven't already be sure to enter your email to the right so we can notify you of our launch and also send you a special coupon.  We hope you will get to sample this snack and many others for yourself before the end of the year!

Manner Lemon Cream Filled Wafers

World of Snacks is heading to the country that is home to two ground breaking snack items, Pez candy and Red Bull energy drink.  This is our first post on our Global Snack Blog from Austria, and hopefully it’s not the last.  Today we are reviewing Manner Lemon Cream Filled Wafers.  Don’t worry, though we’ll get to Red Bull and Pez down the road.

Manner is an Austrian confectionery dynasty that was formed by Joef Manner in 1890 out of his small sweet shop in Vienna.   The founder’s initial goal was to mass produce chocolate and make it high quality and more affordable, at the time chocolate was a luxury item and it would cost a typical worker two days worth of wages to enjoy.  Just eight years later the Manner wafer was born.  Their initial success was with producing the first Neapolitan wafer and several other tasty flavors followed.  At the start they came in small boxes with a pink ribbon.  In 1949 aluminum foil was first introduced to the packaging.  Today the packaging is not as romantic as the original ribbon tied box but it’s still clear this is a high quality snack.

Our snack for review today is the Manner Lemon Cream Filled Wafers.  If you’ve been following our Global Snack Blog you’ll notice that wafer candy bars and treats seem to be pretty common across the world.  With that being said we were not over the top excited to be sampling another wafer product.  However, our hesitation and low expectations quickly disappeared once we sampled these wafers by Manner.  Upon opening this treat from Austria you get a mild whiff of the citrus lemon flavor.  At first bite the lemon is subdued and the wafer is crisp but nothing out of the ordinarily.  The second and third bite intensify the lemon flavor and then a sweet, delicious rush of flavor erupts across your pallet.  These conservative looking wafers are really powerful and over the top.  All of the testers on our panel agree that these are hands down the best wafers in the world, or at least from what we have sampled so far.

Will you be able to buy Manner Lemon Creamed Filled Wafers from our US based snack store?  We are hoping so.  This is currently the only snack we have out of Austria and they do offer several other exciting flavors we hope to try.  If we can locate enough snacks from Austria that warrant this country ‘s inclusion in our normal line up, Manner Wafers will for sure be in our inventory.
