We are also hoping to explore foreign cultures and create a personal connection with these cultures through food. One country that is often in our thoughts recently is the Philippines. The massive storm that has recently rolled through has taken many lives and left many others with out homes. Our international snacks group is based out of Florida (USA), and we too have previously felt the impact of major storms. We don’t want to dwell on a subject that is already well covered by major media but we did want to mention that the Philippines and their people are in our thoughts before we diving into our snack review
Our snack sample came in a bag that for some reason had been modified. The weight was adjusted to read 171g and is followed some characters that clearly appeared to be Chinese. We found the text on the back very intriguing: "Don’t be deceived by this white rock-looking cookie! Every piece is bursting with flavor that you can’t resist! Serve with hot or cold beverage, soda, or ice cream.” Now that we’ve got you excited, lets get on with the taste test of Puto Seko Coconut Angel Cookies! From the description above you may have guessed, this foreign snack is a cookie that looks like a small rock, and yes, it is bursting with flavor. The cookie is hard and when bitten into crumbles in to many pieces. It’s almost best to just throw the whole thing in your mouth. The flavor bursts, just a tad. The coconut is mild and the cookie is overpowering. There is also a subtle chalky after-taste and small traces of coconut that stick around. Overall we all enjoyed the snack, and the mention of ice cream on the back does make us want to try it that way. Will World of Snacks offer Puto Seko Coconut Angel Cookies in our international snack shop that is set to open at the first of the year? Not initially, but when we added the Philippines to our store later in the year we imagine the Puto Seko Coconut Angel Cookies will be part of our normal inventory. Our international snacks blog is authored by Richard Olivarez. Please contact for article suggestions. Certain snacks can bring back memories and remind adults of their childhood. These same candies can excite children of today as well. One of the reasons we decided to create World of Snacks was to seek out candy that we loved as children and to allow my son to explore these same treats. Our candy under review today is one such snack- well soft of.
Our snack from Germany came in a cardboard box filled with an assortment of 34 pieces of Kinder chocolate. This Kinder assortment includes 4 flavors: Kinder Chocolate, Kinder Bueno, Kinder Country, and Kinder Schoko-Bons. First to be sampled from the Kinder Friends Chocolate was the traditional Kinder Bar. The classic is smooth, creamy, and outrageously delicious. The center is filled with creamy milk and this is one of our favorite candy bars in the world. Next up the Kinder Bueno, something we have not had the chance to sample but have seen around in our travels. We have been missing out! The Kinder Bueno is tasty, which is why “Bueno” translates to just that. The center is a hazelnut cream filled wafer that is covered in chocolate. The crunch is an added bonus. Moving on the third candy from the Kinder Friends Chocolate box is Kinder Country. This one caught us by surprise. It tastes like a rice cake covered in Kinder chocolate. Although we are not fans of rice cakes, this flavor did please us. Although out of the assortment it is our least favorite. Last but no least, the Kinder Schoko-Bons. This snack is a chocolate egg filled with chopped hazelnuts. I personally like the other 3 flavors better but other tasters ranked this over the Kinder Country. Their marketing on this German snack is geared towards children but I imagine adults would prefer it. Will World of Snacks offer the Kinder Friends Chocolate Assortment when we launch our international snack store early next year? Yes, we plan to offer all varieties of Kinder when Germany is added to our inventory. Until then, starting January 1st you will be able to purchase snacks from England and have them shipped in the US and around the world. Each month following a new country will be added. Our international snack blog is back in action and heading to Switzerland. Last time World of Snacks reviewed a Swiss snack we took a look at the Milka Choco-Swing, and we loved it! Will our chocolate candy bar under review tonight compare? You’ll have to read on to find out. This Swiss snacks is made by the luxury chocolatier Lindt. This confectionary company got it start way back in 1845 when David Sprungli -Schwarz and his innovative son, Rudolf Sprungli-Ammann, literally reinvented the way chocolate was manufactured. Fast-forward many years to the present and they are now an industry in their segment. In addition to Lindt, this company also own Ghirardelli. Until today, I would have thought they were rivals. Both brands produce outstanding chocolate. Lindt is available in most major countries across the world. Our Swiss snack however, is not in most international markets. Lets take a look at Lindt Hello Strawberry Cheesecake Stick. Our goal is to locate the best snacks anywhere so we can eventually offer them for sale in our international snack store. Our search has taken us everywhere you can imagine. Well, that is except for Target, a major US retail chain. Since many of our customers will be expats living in the US, we have tried to avoid over-the-counter snacks. The Lindt Strawberry Cheesecake Stick is worth the exception. In the US, this Swiss Candy Bar is exclusively available at Target, and they won’t ship out of the country. That means, there may be a demand. And after our taste test of this Strawberry Cheesecake Stick, there should be a demand for this snacks outside of the US
Will World of Snacks offer Lindt Hello Strawberry Cheesecake Chocolate Sticks available for purchase and shipped around the world? Chances are this will make the cut for our normal Swiss inventory. Our international snacks store launches at the first of the year. We will start with snacks from England and add a new country every month. If you’d like to see Swiss Snacks included in our inventory head over and vote. We are letting our readers decide which countries we will feature first. Be sure to leave your details to the right for updates on our progress. Our international snacks blog is authored byRichard Olivarez. Please contact for article suggestions. Taiwan is the latest country to be added to our growing list of destinations. This makes the 28th country for World of Snacks to sample treats from. Our goal is to locate the very best candy, cookies, chocolates, gummies, and cakes from all around the world. Once we find them, we will offer these international snacks for sale online in the US with shipping to pretty much everywhere. On January 1st we will officially launch our foreign snack store and at that time we will be stocking snacks from England. After that, every month we will add a new country to our store and of course restock our inventory for all countries offered. Now on with the review! The snack going under review today is produced by a company called Choice Finee, Inc and they have offices in both the US and Taiwan. With a strong US base I suspect this treat may not be a truly authentic Taiwanese snack. Instead I feel it may be made for the US market. We’ve run into this once before with Eiffel Bon Bon’s. Also the company’s slogan is “New and innovative products for desserts and specialty drinks.” So, this may not be a snack at all. It may just be a desert toping! Lets take a look at Rainbow Mochi from Taiwan and see what we can find out. Our Rainbow Mochi comes in a light blue package and reads Mochi, Crafted with Korean Formula. There are two playful child-like cartoons, one with a hammer, and a clear heart shaped window with some foreign writing. Sadly I am not sure what it reads. Inside you can see a ton of the Mochi in a variety of colors, in fact a rainbow of colors. There is also a partition breaking this 10oz snacks into three sections. At the start of our taste test of the Rainbow Mochi from Taiwan, our testers were still unsure of exactly what Mochi was. We dove in anyway! Rainbow Mochi taste like very fruity small marshmallows. They almost have a fluffy soft gum consistency, so we could tell they were not actual marshmallows. All testers involved did like the treat, but we are not sure if it can stand on it’s own. That brings us back to the feeling that Mochi is a topping of some sort. After a little more research, we did confirm our suspicions. Mochi is often put on ice cream and used as an ingredient in other snacks. Also interesting side note, this snack that reads Korean formula and is made in Taiwan, is really a Japanese treat! Will World of Snacks stock this mystery of a desert topping (or ingredient) in our online snack store? No, Rainbow Mochi from Taiwan will not be offered for sale, unless we find a true authentic version from one of the countries in question. Please contact for article suggestions. Our search for the best snacks in the world continues! Today our international snack blog touches down in Scotland. Last time we reviewed a Scottish treat we received several comments and a poster by the name Auntie Dave recommended we give Tunnock’s Caramel Log a try. Sorry Auntie Dave, we have not yet received our shipment of Caramel Logs, but we have the next best thing. Our international snack review today is on Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Biscuits. Tunncock’s has a long snack history dating back to 1890. An interesting side note the founder’s father was a coffin maker, good thing he didn’t follow in his father’s footsteps! Thomas Tunnock (the Founder) finished up school and became an apprentice of Aberdour Bakery. Tom worked hard and saved up 80 pounds (the currency, not the weight) and purchased his very own bakery. Fast-forward to today and Tunnock’s is known as Scotland’s Favorite and has a 300,000 square foot factory and employs over 500 staff members! Also did we mention, it’s still family owned? Our sample of Tunnock’s Real Milk Chocolate Caramel Wafer Biscuits is an 8 pack that features individually wrapped bars. The top call out reads “Still Original Size” but I am not so sure if that’s a good thing. By American standards this candy bar is on the smaller side. Though, I personally prefer smaller candy bars (it’s labeled a biscuit but could be both). The main container is shinny red and gold and looks very patriotic. The Tunnock’s logo appears to be very similar to the centerpiece of the Scottish Royal Banner Flag. Do you really care how this snack from Scotland looks? Let’s move on to the taste test.
If you’ve been following along you know we are searching for inventory for the upcoming release of our international snack store. Will World of Snacks offer Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Biscuits for sale in the US and shipped around the globe? Yes, we plan to include most of the Tunnock’s products when we add Scotland to our selection. Staring January 1st you will be able to purchase Snacks from England and we will add a new country every month. To stay up to date with our progress please leave your details to the right. Keep on snacking! Our international snacks blog is authored byRichard Olivarez. Please contact for article suggestions. World of Snacks is on a quest to locate the very best snacks in the world. Starting in 2014 we will offer cookies, chips, chocolates, and sweets from around the world for sale with shipping to everywhere! Our first country to be featured will be England with a new country added to our online snack store each month. As we continue our search for inventory we will still be reviewing snacks on our blog. Our foreign snack under review today is from the Philippines. Our Filipino treat comes from a company labeled Trappist Monastic Food Products and is manufactured by Our Lady of the Philippines Trappist Abbey. The Abbey is located on the island of Gurmaras and has a long tradition of hospitality and excellence. For over 1500 years these monk have prayed and worked in common and lived by the labor of their hands. Apparently this snack from the Philippines is one of these labors. In addition to our snack, Trappist Mango Bars, these monks make several other treat and sweets. Let’s get on to the review! From the box of these Mango Bars we were not sure what to expect. The packaging is bland but intriguing. Their logo includes a monk stirring a caldron, which in the US is highly unusual to see on a snack box (or at all). Our sample weighs in at 220g and comes with 10 individual wrapped bars. A graphic in the corner read Guimaras’ Finest, so that’s reassuring. After careful inspection we ripped the box open and began our taste test.
Will World of Snacks include Trappist Mango Bars in the inventory for our international snack store? The answer is a clear maybe. We really like the snack, so much so that even if we don’t stock it we may purchase it for our own consumption. The only reason we are unsure is the snack is literary made by monks in a far off land. A friend returning from the Philippines brought these Mango Bars to us and we are not sure if the monks have yet mastered global distribution. All that means is, a little more research is needed. To stay up to date with our progress and to receive a special coupon to the launch of our international snack store, be sure to leave your details to the right. Keep on snacking! Our international snacks blog is authored byRichard Olivarez. Please contact for article suggestions. There are two reasons we decided to start World of Snacks. The first was to make getting snacks from England easier (it’s where I grew up) and the second reason was to try some of the delicious foreign snacks that are only found in Japan. Well starting January 1st our international snack store will start selling British Snacks and we’ll ship them anywhere in the world. From there we will add a new country at the beginning of each month. The country we are most excited to add to our store is Japan.
To be honest we were unsure of the flavor we were sampling. The package is white with light blue trim and has image of ice cubes. The ice cube symbol on Japanese Kit Kats means that it is an ice cream flavor. However, Kit Kat Japan makes several ice cream flavors and our Japanese is a little rusty. We did a little research and found the Cookies and Cream flavor comes in the same exact package. However the Cookies and Cream Kit Kat looks like a typical cookies and cream snack from anywhere in the world. Our candy under review was white with a pink or light tan hint to it. Turns out it’s the waffle cone. Enough of the back story- how does the Vanilla Ice Cream Kit Kat taste?
10/9/2014 UPDATE: This snacks has been re-released and now offered for sale online!
As you can imagine operating an international snack review website we run into many friends who come back from abroad with treats they’ve discovered. One such friend mentioned he would be spending time in Asia and asked if we’d like him to bring us something back. We told him to find the most unique and unusual snack possible. He definitely did just that. Follow along as our international snack blog head to Thailand! This is not our first snack review of an unusual Thai snack. In fact earlier this month we sampled Crispy Baby Clam Snacks. Sticking in the seafood snack family this week we are reviewing Sweet and Spicy Squid. Generally we dive into the brand and a small bit of history about our snack in question but from what we can determine our Sweet and Spicy Squid comes from a Thai deli or bakery. The only mention of a brand states this unusual foreign snack is distributed by FR General Merchandise. We did a little research on this Thai snack company or distributor and did not locate any company details. So let’s head right into our taste test!
Will World of Snacks offer this unusual Thai snack as a part of our normal inventory when our international snack store launches early next year? Chance are we will not. We do want to offer unique snacks that will be fun to explore for all but being this is from a deli it does not make sense. We may try squid snacks from Bento, a major manufacture of the treat but it’s highly unlikely. I personally cannot see anyone enjoying this. If you think we should carry, let us know and maybe we will change our mind. If you’d like to stay up to date and receive a special coupon to the launch of our store be sure to leave your details to the right. Our international snacks blog is authored byRichard Olivarez.
