Balconi Snack Cakes from Italy

Balconi Snack Cakes
We are expanding our selection of Italian Snacks. We have tons of new items on the way from Italy.  As we await their arrival, we thought it would be fun to take a look at a few of our current bestsellers.
Italian Balconi makes a wide variety of yummy snack cakes and we currently offer most of their lineup.  However, the following four are some of our most purchased Balconi Snack Cakes.
SHOP ITALIAN SNACKS
First up is the World of Snacks favorite, the Balconi Choco Orange. Why is it our favorite? Because it tastes like a chocolate covered orange dreamsicle. Not familiar? It's an orange flavored cream filled popsicle - and you should get familiar. Unfortunately we do not sell popsicles being that they will melt (as we ship them around the world), so you'll just have to order one of these instead.

Our second featured snack cake is the Balconi Mix Milk, and it's our second favorite of the bunch.  This is also the only cake we are featuring made of chocolate cake.  Who doesn't love chocolate cake?  This version is also covered in chocolate and features a nice layer of milk cream.

Next up we have a classic, the Balconi Mix Max. Although it's a little more conservative than the others it is still a yummy choice. It also outsells the other cakes. It's a sponge cake, covered in chocolate, with a chocolate layer in the center. It's easy to see why everyone is buying this cake.  It's not easy to see why you haven't ordered one yet.

Last but not least and my partners personal favorite, the Balconi Trancetto Chocolate.  This version is a tiramisu rendition.  It's not spot on tiramisu, but it's as close as you can get in a snack cake.  It's multi-layered and delicious. So, you should buy a few.

Balconi Rollino Hazelnut Review

Balconi Rollino Hazelnut Review
_ Over the past few years we’ve traveled the globe in search of the best snacks.  We’ve located quite a few great treats that we now include in our international snack store.  Currently we feature snacks from a total of 10 countries with plans to expand to include more in the very near future.
One of our featured counties is Italy.  Our selection of Italian Snacks for sale online include cakes from a company called Balconi.  We’ve tried a few of their best selling cakes in previous reviews and loved them.  Recently we received in a shipment of Balconi Rollino Hazelnut and with our successful history of reviews, we figured we’d give them a try.  Let’s take a closer look.
The Balconi Rollino Hazelnut comes in a green package, with of course the Balconi logo across the top.  In the center there is a picture of a roll cake, with a side of hazelnuts, and a pitcher of milk.  The packaging is pleasant, not over the top, and very fitting for the snack cake held within.  On to the taste test!
Balconi Rollino
The cake is moist, like all Balconi cakes we’ve sampled. This one for some reason seems a little too moist.  The overall treat is soft and sweet.  The chocolate is pleasant, nothing to write home about, but enjoyable.  The hazelnut cream is rich and creamy. I personally wish that the cake was a little more crumbly.  The whole treat melds together well and for a pre-packaged cake its pretty enjoyable.
Overall, it’s OK.  Of course we want you to rush and buy the Balconi Rollino online here in our international snack store.   However, some snacks are less epic than others.  There are a ton of exciting snacks from Italy here on our site. Be sure to check out those too!

Balconi Mix Max Review

10/22/2014

Comments

Just a few months back we expanded our international snack store to include some exciting cakes from Italy.  So far we’ve only had a chance to review one, the Balconi Tiramisu.  Although we’ve found time to sample one Italian cake several have quickly become best sellers.  So today we are reviewing another cake from Italy, let’s take a look at the Balconi Mix Max Coconut Cakes.
Balconi Mix Max
Our sample under review comes in a 10-pack but being our specialty is shipping the best snacks in the world to everywhere in the world, we offer these foreign cakes for sale individually.  The 10-pack packaging is colorful and it gives us an idea of what we are sampling.  It shows a chocolate cake, with a chocolate coating, covered in coconut flakes.  You can also tell from the main image it has a cream center.  Of course the Balconi logo is on the package, and in chocolaty writing, “Mix Max coconuts”.  The individual piece comes in a clear sealed package, and is not as exciting to look at. Do you really care what the package looks like?  On to the taste test!
Balconi Mix Max
The last cake from Balconi we sampled blew us away.  It was a full size cake and among the first we’ve encountered that is presented this way.  So our hopes were high for this coconut snack cake.  Unfortunately we were not wowed with the Mix Max as we were to the Tiramisu. The cake was fluffy, the chocolate creamy, but the coconut tasted too processed for our likes.  Overall the snack was enjoyable, but not epic.  It seemed like something Little Debbie in the US would produce.
Well there you have it.  The Balconi Mix Max is good, but not great.  We’d love to see if you agree with us.  If you do buy one, be sure to leave your feedback below and on your next order we will send you an extra snack!  Until next time, keep on snacking world!

Dora3 Crema Cocoa Croissants

8/8/2014

Comments

Earlier this month World of Snacks launched it’s first round of Italian Snacks offered for sale in the US with international shipping to nearly everywhere.  Our selection of snacks from Italy for sale online includes cookies, cakes, and chocolates.  We initially set out to create World of Snacks so we could locate and sample unique snacks from around the globe.  Tonight we are sampling our very first croissant snack!
Dora3 Croissant
Our snack under review is the Dora3 Crema Cocoa Croissants.  Dora3 is a brand owned by the Italian confectionery company Antonelli.  It appears from our research the same snack is offered under each label.  In some markets this snack is marketed as Antonelli Crema Cocoa Croissants.  Unfortunately our research turned up little else about either Dora3 or Antonelli. So let’s move along and take a closer look these packaged Crema Cocoa Croissants.
Dora3 Chocolate
Our snack under review comes in a sky blue cloud-like wrapper.   The snack weighs in at 50 grams or 1.76 ounces, depending on your preference.  Dora3’s logo is simple; it’s a white oval with some wheat thrown about behind it.  Below the Dora3 logo the package reads “croissant di pastasfoglia – puff pastry.”  To the right there is a picture of a croissant packed with an abundance of chocolate filing as well as a wooden container offering even more chocolate.  Along the bottom of the package it reads, “Crema Cacao with Custard Cocoa Filling”.  Now onto the taste test of this Italian baked good.
Dora3 Crema Cocoa Croissants
To be honest this unique snack had us intrigued from the beginning.  A pre-packaged croissant snack is unheard of in the US, or really in any other country we have explored.  The problem with offering a croissant this way is it’s typically fresh baked, and how long can it last?  Well, Dora3 is working some sort of magic.  The shelf life of the Crema Cocoa Croissants is quite long yet they manage somehow to still offer a fresh baked snack taste.  Our testers were pleasantly surprised to sample a fluffy baked good.  Although I personally prefer my croissants to be more flaky and buttery, this snack did not have a stale taste that I would have assumed would be apparent.  It did however lack the abundance of chocolate pictured on the wrapper.  There was very little chocolate filling and if the pastry portion wasn’t pleasant we doubt we would have enjoyed this snack.  Overall it was enjoyable, but has room for improvement.
If you want to order the Dora3 Crema Cocoa Croissants to sample yourself, you better do it now!  Although we do offer this snack for sale in the US, we are not sure if we will restock our supply.  Looking for other Italian Snacks that we do love?  Check out our Italian offerings in our international snack store.  As always, keep on snacking world!

The Flintstones Milch Schokoriegel

5/6/2014

Comments

Tonight we continue our mission to locate the best snacks in the world.  Our international snack review is of The Flintstones Milch Schokoriegel or for those who speak English, The Flintstones Milk Chocolate Bar.
The Flintstones Milk Chocolate Bar
The Flintstones Milch Schokoriegel is manufactured by one of our favorite international candy companies, Kinder.  Kinder is German for child, but oddly enough, this brand is owned by the Italian snack company Ferrero.  Kinder produces several candies that we offer in our international snack store, including the Kinder Riegel, which we believe this Flintstones chocolate bar is a version of.  Let’s take a closer look.
The Flintstones Milch Schokoriegel
We absolutely love the packaging of The Flintstones Milk Chocolate Bars!  They come in a box that is the same shape and size as the traditional Kinder Chocolate Bars but it’s covered with a scene that could be ripped right from The Flintstones cartoon!  It’s very fun and appealing.  Inside the box, several individual chocolate bars wrapped in foil with The Flintstones logo and a dino printed pattern.  Now on to the taste test!
View German Chocolate Bars
Well we assumed this German (really Italian) candy bar was similar to the Kinder Riegel since it’s made by Kinder and actually says “Riegel” on the package.  After the taste test we’ve come to realize it’s similar, but not exactly identical. In fact, just after our taste test we took a Kinder Riegel from our inventory to compare.  The Flintstones Milch Schokoriegel is actually more sugary and less creamy than it’s similar counterpart.  The chocolate bars themselves also look different. Why is this?  We are not sure.  There is very little information about this version of the Kinder bar anywhere.  So we are assuming, since this sample did not come right from Germany, that it’s a version made for a different market.  We did enjoy this foreign chocolate bar, but not as much as the bar we thought it was.
German Chocolate Bars
Will World of Snacks offer The Flintstones Milch Schokoriegel in our Online German Snack Store?  Not yet, but maybe for a limited run in the future.  If you’d like to try some of our favorite Kinder chocolate snacks be sure to check out the German Chocolate section of our inventory.  If you are looking for something a little more bold and equally as rare- check out our recent addition of Japanese Kit Kats. As always, keep on snacking world!

Kinder Delice Review

3/6/2014

Comments

World of Snacks is on a mission to locate the very best snacks from around the world!  We have sampled tasty treats from 31 different countries and each month this year we plan to expand our international snack store to include a new country and their sweet and salty snacks we discover.   For March we welcome Germany!  Today we are officially opening our online German Snacks store.  So for our blog post today we felt it would be fitting to include one of the newly added foreign snack items for sale.  This featured item is one of several we have included produced by Kinder.
Kinder Delice
I personally first encountered Kinder as a child living in England.  My father wanted to surprise me and came home with a fitting chocolate treat called the Kinder Surprise.  One day we hope to be able to offer the Kinder Surprise for sale, but right now it’s not allowed in the USA.  Why you ask?  Inside the chocolate egg is a small toy, full of small pieces.  As you can imagine, they are slightly dangerous.  Never the less, we fell in love.  So over the past year we have tracked down many of the snack offered by Kinder and now we have a whole selection of our new favorite snacks!
German Cake Snack
Delice Chocolate
Our review today is of a snack that is completely new to us.  We are reviewing the Kinder Delice.  Most of the Kinder snack items we have recently encountered are a milky chocolate based treats.  This however, is a cake!  We didn’t realize it until we began our review and we were pleasantly surprised.  Due to perishability; we do not get to review too many cakes from around the world.  The last cake we reviewed was the Balconi Tiramisu from Italy, and it was awesome!  Do these smaller individually wrapped cakes from Kinder compare?  Let’s get onto our taste test and see.
We can tell you for certain this treat is not a tiramisu.  That being said, we love the Kinder Delice!  This consist of a pair soft chocolate sponge cakes, a creamy milk layer, and a milk chocolate shell that has just the right amount of firmness.  This snacks tastes like an American Little Debbie cake made for adults, and with much better ingredients.  All our taste testers agree, the Kinder Delice Cocoa is a fantastic snack that we recommend to adults and children alike.
If you’ve followed our blog you know we generally close with a determination if we will or will not feature the reviewed item in our international snack store.  This article is different, you can buy the Kinder Delice online right this second.  So what are you waiting for?  Check out our brand new selection of German Snacks!
P.S. We know that Kinder is owned by the Italian Snack company Ferrero and plan to host their snacks in our Italian inventory when it is added to our international snack store.  The name Kinder is actually German and the following in Germany is very significant and many falsely believe that Kinder is a German Company.  For usability we will offer Kinder as a German Snack and an Italian Snack at a later date.

Kinder Bueno White Chocolate

2/24/2014

Comments

We created our international snack blog so we could spend time taking an in-depth look at the best snacks from around the world.  So far we have trekked though 31 different countries and reviewed their best chocolates, chips, cookies, candies, and cakes.  We’ve started to offer some of these delicious foreign snacks in our international snack store.  Each month this year we are expanding our store to include a new country and their best snacks. So far we’ve included British Snacks and American Snacks.  Next month we will add German Snacks for sale online.  Today we are taking a look at a German Snack that will be included in our online store.
Kinder Bueno White Chocolate
The snack under review today is the Kinder Bueno White.   We absolutely love the Kinder brand and I personally have enjoyed their treats since I first sample the Kinder Surprise as a child living in Europe.  Unfortunately the Kinder Surprise is not allowed in the US, so we keep trying to fill this void with other Kinder Brand Snacks.  Not too long ago we did a review of the Kinder Hippo Biscuits.  As you can imagine, we loved them too!  Will the Kinder Bueno White keep us happy? Let’s take a closer look to find out.
German Kinder White
Our German imported snack today appears to be a chocolate bar.  It comes in the Kinder trademark brand packaging, an orange base with a wavy milk white coating.  Of course it hosts the Kinder logo, followed by the words “bueno” and “white”.  There is a blue box that reads “with milk and hazelnut”.  Underneath, “Crunchy wafers with creamy nut filling in white chocolate.”  Overall it looks pleasant.  One side note, we forgot to mention previously on the back it reads that it’s made in Poland.  Also, the parent company is Ferrero.  Ferrero is from Italy, but we made a decision to still classify this as a German snack, since that is where the Kidner Brand originated.  Enough of the back story, on with the review of the Kinder Bueno White Chocolate!
We really had high expectations for the Kidner Buneo White Chocolate, although none of the tasters have previously sampled this chocolate bar.  We also did not really understand, it’s not actually a chocolate bar.  It’s wafer based, and is more of a mix of a chocolate bar and a crunchy cookie.  The texture and taste did not let us down.  It’s so crunchy, but not too crunchy.  It’s flakey as well.  The nut cream filling is phenomenal!  The Kinder Bueno White Choclate is pleasant, not to sweet, and comes together to create a very well rounded snack.  There simply is nothing in the US to compare, and that’s probably why we are in business!
Typically we end our review with a decision if we will stock the featured snack in our international snack store. This review is different. Even though our German Snack store is not officially launched, you can buy the Kinder Bueno White Chocolate Online right now!  We have a sneak preview of just a few German Snacks until our store officially opens.  If you are searching for German snacks or just interested in knowing when we add other countries, be sure to leave your details to the right.  Keep on snacking world!

Balconi Tiramisu Review

2/19/2014

Comments

World of Snacks is on a mission to locate the very best snacks in the world.  Over the past 13 months we have visited a total of 31 different countries and tried their best candies, cookies, and cakes. One country that we haven’t reviewed enough snacks from is Italy.  We love many things Italian, including their snacks.  So tonight, we are in Italy reviewing the Balconi Tiramisu!
Balconi Tiramisu
Balconi Dolciaria is an Italian snack company that specializes in cakes.  Founded in 1953 as a pasty shop by Michele Balconi, this company has grown over they years and now employs 120 people.  Their best selling cake is the Mix Max Chocolate but they also produce many others including Mix Max Coconut, Choco Orange, Choco Latte, and the snack we are reviewing tonight- the Balconi Tiramisu. Let’s take a look at this Italian treat!
Italian Tiramisu Cake
Our goal at World of Snacks is to offer the best snacks from around the world for sale online with global shipping.  So selling cakes sounds a little difficult.  Don’t they go bad?  We love cakes and wanted to try one anyway.  When our cake arrived from Italy we were pleasantly surprised to see they actually have quite a long shelf life. Balconi offers a cake in a bag!  This is something truly unique.  The packaging is bright yellow, features a large piece of Tiramisu, some grain, and a farm in the background.  The Balconi logo is in the left corner with the word “new” placed below.  Now you know what the Balconi Tiramisu looks like, let’s get one with our review.
Snack from Italy
To be honest, we did not know what to expect from this Italian cake.  So far, we’ve only reviewed one other actual cake, the Tortuga Caribbean Rum Cake.  We really enjoyed that cake, but it also did not come in a bag.  In addition to owning a global snack company, we also are very picky fine dinners.  Tiramisu is actually often ordered by my lovely partner at some of the top restaurants in USA, so this treat has big shoes to fill!  The Balconi Tiramisu cake pleasantly surprised all testers involved.  This dessert did not taste like it was delivered to us in a sack, it was actually quite enjoyable!  That being said, it was dryer than a typical restaurant tiramisu, but that’s OK with us.  The Mascarpone cream cheese and cocoa powder was creamy and sweet.  The cake was soft and fluffy.  The coffee filling , a nice touch. The only thing that could have improved it was just a tad bit of moisture; with a shot of liqueur this Italian cake would be perfect!
Will World of Snacks include the Balconi Tiramisu in our international snack shop when Italian snacks are added?  There is a strong chance! We’d also like to sample some of the other cakes made by Balconi Dolciaria to consider.  It may be a while before we offer Italian snacks for sale online.  We’ve only reviewed a handful so far, and many of them are offered by Kinder.  Starting next month we will include Kinder chocolates in our German Snack Store.  So we need to find some more delicious snacks from Italy!  Until then, check out some other sweet treats in our international snack store or leave your details to the right, we will be sure to keep you posted as we include a new country to our store each month.  Keep on snacking world!

Kinder Happy Hippo Biscuits

1/30/2014

Comments

We created World of Snacks and our International Snack blog over a year ago.  Our goal for developing this business was to be able to sample snacks from our diverse childhoods, explore unique flavors and treats, and make them available for purchase all across the world.  One of the treats that inspired us to go into the snack business was the Kinder Surprise, from what we though was from Germany.  So this week our international snack blog is in Germany?
Kinder Happy Hippo Biscuits
The reason we ended the previous statement with a question mark is Kinder, although German for children, is not from Germany.  Today the Italian luxury snack group, Ferrero, owns Kinder.   So we are actually reviewing an Italian snack!  Why did we mention we sought out the Kinder Surprise?  Because this tasty childhood treat we desire is actually banned form the USA!  Something about putting small toys inside a chocolate candy is a little dangerous, well according to the FDA anyway.  So trying to fill the void that the Kinder Surprise Egg has left with us we have been sampling anything we can get our hands on with a Kinder logo.  Late last year we took a look at Kinder Friends.  Today, the Kinder Happy Hippo Biscuits are going under review.
Happy Hippos
Kinder Cookie
So what exactly is a Happy Hippo Biscuit?  To be honest, we had no idea until it arrived.  Guess what it is?  It’s a biscuit (cookie) shaped like a happy hippo.  Easy enough.  Our sampling came in a box that offered 5 happy hippos and the packaging resembles all other Kinder products.  The individually wrapped treat inside contains a cookie hippo looking back out at you.  You can also see a meringue coating peaking out a little that has been covered with shards of chocolate.  Let’s get onto the taste test review of Kinder Happy Hippo Biscuits.
So before we give our review of this Kinder cookie, let’s recap a little of what we have sampled over the last 13 months.  We will keep it short.  We have sampled many, many, many snacks from a total of 30 countries.  We wanted to start our review of the Kinder Happy Hippo Biscuits with a little bit of our background so the next statement is taken seriously.  The Kinder Happy Hippo Biscuits are by far, the best snack we have tasted from anywhere in the world!  We enjoyed this treat so much that all testers involved were actually smiling will consuming the biscuit.  The crispy wafer biscuit taste like a sugar cone that would generally hold soft serve ice cream. It provides a firm, hollow crunch that is very pleasant.  Inside, two of the finest tasting cream fillings we have encountered.  One is milk and the other cocoa.  The meringue undercoating adds a subtle flavor and holds the additional fragments of chocolate on the exterior.  All the independent ingredients come together to create a snack that is truly special.
Will World of Snacks offer Kinder Happy Hippo Biscuits for sale online in our international snack store?  Yes! We can’t wait until our inventory is expanded to include all legal Kinder products.  When we will sell snacks from Italy or Germany? Help us decide now by voting for your favorite.  Also, currently we offer both British Snacks and American Snacks for sale.  Each month this year we will expand to include a new country.  We’d love to know what snacks you think we should carry.  Leave your details to the right and we will keep you up to date.  Keep on snacking world!

3/15/2014 UPDATE:  You can now purchase the Kinder Happy Hippos online!

Kinder Friends Chocolate Assortment

11/26/2013

Comments

Certain snacks can bring back memories and remind adults of their childhood.  These same candies can excite children of today as well.   One of the reasons we decided to create World of Snacks was to seek out candy that we loved as children and to allow my son to explore these same treats.   Our candy under review today is one such snack- well soft of.
Kinder Friends Chocolate
Our international snacks blog is heading to Germany to explore a snack offered by the beloved Kinder!  Kinder for non-German speaking confectionery lovers translates to “children” and we cannot think of a more appropriate name.  This brand is personally a favorite of mine.  When I was a child my dad would treat the kids to a Kinder Surprise Egg.  It was a delicious milk chocolate egg filled with a surprise toy inside.  Generally the toy had small pieces and you had to put them together.  From what we’ve heard that has changed.  Now with strict guidelines around the world small toys inside food are generally not allowed.  Unfortunately, still today the Kinder Surprise is banned in the United States.  That’s why we are taking a look at Kinder Friends Chocolate Assortment instead!
Our snack from Germany came in a cardboard box filled with an assortment of 34 pieces of Kinder chocolate.  This Kinder assortment includes 4 flavors: Kinder Chocolate, Kinder Bueno, Kinder Country, and Kinder Schoko-Bons.
Kinder Friends Chocolate Assortment
First to be sampled from the Kinder Friends Chocolate was the traditional Kinder Bar.  The classic is smooth, creamy, and outrageously delicious.   The center is filled with creamy milk and this is one of our favorite candy bars in the world.
Next up the Kinder Bueno, something we have not had the chance to sample but have seen around in our travels.  We have been missing out!  The Kinder Bueno is tasty, which is why “Bueno” translates to just that.  The center is a hazelnut cream filled wafer that is covered in chocolate.  The crunch is an added bonus.
Moving on the third candy from the Kinder Friends Chocolate box is Kinder Country.  This one caught us by surprise.  It tastes like a rice cake covered in Kinder chocolate.  Although we are not fans of rice cakes, this flavor did please us.  Although out of the assortment it is our least favorite.
Last but no least, the Kinder Schoko-Bons. This snack is a chocolate egg filled with chopped hazelnuts.  I personally like the other 3 flavors better but other tasters ranked this over the Kinder Country.   Their marketing on this German snack is geared towards children but I imagine adults would prefer it.
Will World of Snacks offer the Kinder Friends Chocolate Assortment when we launch our international snack store early next year?  Yes, we plan to offer all varieties of Kinder when Germany is added to our inventory.  Until then, starting January 1st you will be able to purchase snacks from England and have them shipped in the US and around the world.   Each month following a new country will be added.  To stay up to date with the progress of our online store leave your details to the right.
