Tonight is a milestone snack review for us. After this post, World of Snacks will have reviewed treats from 40 countries! Recently Black Bird Specialties asked us if we’d be willing to sample some products from a brand called Kucker, and of course we said yes. When we found out their snacks are from Ecuador we got even more excited. So let’s take a closer look at our snacks under review. Our sample consists of 5 separate flavors of Kucker Plantain Chips, which appears to be all of their products. They boast that their chips are made from export quality Ecuadorian plantains, which we are guessing are the choice plantains? They also boast their products will help maintain a healthy lifestyle. Lastly, they are Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Cholesterol-Free, Kosher, and Non-GMO. Now you know a little about Kucker, let’s get on with the taste test! Up first, Kucker Naturally Sweet Plantain Chips. These are what we think of first when plantain chips come to mind. They are just sweet enough, like a ripe plantain should taste. Crunchy and enjoyable, but also very basic. Let’s move on and try something a little more exciting. Next up, Kucker Tropical Plantain Chips. From the tastefully designed packaging we found out that the “tropical” means Passion Fruit and Mango. This flavor was familiar to me personally but I am having a hard time placing it. One of our testers remarked that is tastes how potpourri smells. Needless to say, they are fruity and a tad bit over-powering. However, most of our tasters enjoyed them and said they would eat them again. Kucker Red Fruits Plantain Chips instantly reminded me of one of my favorite childhood cereal. They taste oddly familiar to Cap’n Crunch Berries, which are awesome. This flavor was several of our testers favorites. They are still fruity, but much less overpowering then the Tropical version. The Red Fruits are Raspberry and Cranberry, and they blend well together. Moving away from the sweeter flavors, our next sample is Kucker Salty Plantain Chips. These are the ideal substitute for a potato chip. Less greasy, a better texture, and more enjoyable. The salt is mild but complements the fruit chip itself. Last but not least, my personal favorite – Kucker Jalapeno-Lemon Plantain Chips. I’m not sure if it’s our recent addiction to Takis Nitro Habenero Lime, but we really are enjoying the spicy and citrusy snacks. Unlike the Takis, this snack is better for you, and much less spicy. I wish the jalapeno was stronger but really enjoyed this flavor combination non-the-less. There you have it. World of Snacks has now reviewed snacks from 40 countries! Typically we close our articles with a determination if we will offer the reviewed snack for sale. At the moment we do not have plans to include Kucker Plantain Chips in our inventory. We have a feeling they are only made for export and our focus is on authentic classic snacks that are enjoyed in their own respective countries. That doesn’t mean we will not carry them in the future. They are a great product. As always, keep on snacking world!
