Biscolata Mood

Our international snack blog is around 15 months old now and we’ve had a blast reviewing the best cookies, candies, cakes, and sweets from around the world.  Although each and every snack review is exciting and important to us, we get extra excited when we get to try a snack from a new country.  Tonight we are reviewing a snack from Turkey, the 32nd country we’ve explored. 

Our Turkish snack comes to us from a company called Solen, which was founded in 1989.  They set out to become the most innovative snack company in Turkey, and that is something they have accomplished.  Not only is Solen a snack leader in their home country of Turkey, they were recently ranked number 49 on the “Global Top 100 List” by Candy Industry Magazine.    Today they produce a varied line of confectionary items including chocolates, cakes, wafers, candies, gums, and biscuits.  Our foreign snack review tonight is for the Solen Biscolata Mood.  Let’s take a look!

Our snack arrived in small cardboard box, which is mostly white on top with liquid chocolate graphics below.  The liquid chocolate is splashing around and rising up toward a few hovering cookies that appear to be filled with more chocolate.  Of course, “Biscolata” is shown and a red bar below reads” Mood with milk chocolate.”  On the side of the box there is a key to showing the different graphics on the biscuits defining what the images stands for.  Their slogan, and the reason there are images on the cookies is “A Delicious Cookie Biscuit for Every Mood!”  So now we understand the strange name that is clearly not in Turkish.  Let’s move onto the taste test.

Small cookies or biscuits filled with chocolate are not really common in the United States.  However, this snack is very familiar to a snack we sampled over a year ago out of Japan, the Hello Panda Biscuits.   Something we did not expect though, we actually prefer the Biscolata Mood to the Hello Panda.  The un-sweet cookie is overly crunchy, which is very refreshing.  The chocolate is creamy, and has an almost hazelnut flavor.  After further examination, we realized it does actually contain hazelnut, which is a nice touch.  They are very addicting, and fun to eat!
