LA2PU Dried Papaya

World of Snacks is on a mission to locate the very best snacks found anywhere in the world.  Our goal is to be the largest international snack store.  Each month in 2014 we will expand our snack shop to include a new country and their best cookies, cakes, chocolate, sweets, and gummies.  Right now we offer the best British Snacks and American Snacks.  Next month, we will add German snacks to our inventory.  We haven’t decide what will come after that so we are utilizing our snack blog as a way to document out search for future countries and inventory.  Today our snack blog is off to the Philippines!

So far we have reviewed a handful of snacks form the Philippines and all have been enjoyable.  Our favorite Filipino snack thus far is he Puto Seko Coconut Angel Cookies.  The snack under review today is LA2PU Dried Papaya.  Will this fruit snacks from the Philippines surpass our recently found appreciation for the Angel Cookies?  Let’s take a closer look and find out.

Generally we start out with a little information about the manufacture or snack company that produces the foreign snack under review.  Something that we have noticed in previous Philippine snack reviews is the lack of information about their companies. LA2PU has no information about them online, so we will skip past that and take a look at the packaging.  The presentation of the snack is pretty straightforward.  Their logo looks is basic and the package reads “LA2PU Dried Papaya.”  In the corner it reads “ Export Quality.”  There is a picture of a papaya and a clear window showing the dried fruit contained with in.  That’s about it, so let’s see how this snack tastes.

LA2PU Dried Papaya is a first for me personally.  We have been at this for 13 months and reviewed snacks from 30 different countries.  This is the first foreign snack that I could not even put in my mouth.  Upon opening this basic package I was hit with a rancid odor. The smell is very close to vomit, and it the worst smelling snack we have yet to encounter.  We tripled checked the expiration date and it read later this year and no signs of the package show that it has been opened previously either.  We are not able to find if this snacks smells so horrible on purpose or if we simply have a bad batch.  One of our testers daringly moved on with the examination of this dried papaya from the Philippines.  She is a big fan of papaya and had to see what this unusual snack tasted like.  Well lucky for her, it doesn’t taste like vomit.  She did say it’s bland, and even though it’s not papaya skin it lends more to that direction than a true papaya.

Will World of Snacks offer LA2PU Dried Papaya when our international snack store includes Philippine snacks?  The answer is a 100% no way, unless we find that this batch was tainted.  Even then, we will not offer snacks that do not offer the same level of quality we expect from our brands here in the USA.  We will continue our search for delicious Filipino snacks but until then check out the current offerings in our international snack store.  If you’d like to be notified as new countries are added to our inventory be sure to leave your details to the right.  Keep on snacking world!
