Ricolino Duvalin

In just a few days we will officially announce the addition of Mexican Snacks to our international snack store.  They are all currently listed for sale online in our store; we are just adding details to each snack.  For some of the unusual snacks with very little information online, we have to move them up our list for review.  One such snack is the Ricolino Duvalin.

The Ricolino Duvalin is a chocolate spreadable snack that is comprised of skimmed milk and flavored vegetable fat.  Sounds good?  Maybe, but we have no idea on what exactly to expect.  There are very little spreadable snacks in the United States.  The only other spreadable snack we have yet to encounter from anywhere in the world is the L.B.’s Maple Treat Butter.  Although that Canadian Snack was called butter, it was sweet and thick, more like an icing.  

Our sample of the Ricolino Duvalin is small; it weighs in at just over half an ounce.  It comes in a tub that looks like a cross between a miniature pudding and a pack of spreadable butter.  The full text on the cover reads “ Ricolino Duvalin Bi Sabor Hazelnut and Vanilla artificially flavored candy.”  That’s a mouth full.  Now that we know what this Mexican snack looks like- Let’s put it in our mouths!

Upon opening the sample under review, we still were unsure if we would eat it straight, or find something to spread it on.   To accurately provide a review of the Ricolino Duvalin Hazelnut and Vanilla we felt it was best to jump straight in and leave any other snack items out.  This snack is thick and nothing like pudding.  Both of the other testers involved immediately proclaimed the Ricolino Duvalin is similar to cake icing.  I think I agree, although it’s not overly sweet like traditional cake icing.  The chocolate reminded me of another chocolate-based snack, the Yan Yan Chocolate Cream Dip from Singapore.   Like the Yan Yan, this foreign snack was pleasant and truly un-American.  Only one problem, the chocolate wasn’t chocolate at all.  It’s hazelnut!  It’s so similar to chocolate that no one really mentioned the hazelnut flavor.  Overall, what ever this Mexican Snack is, we all really like it.  We do think it works well as a spread or simply by itself.
