Three Cheese Doritos from Japan

Today our international snack blog is reviewing a unique Doritos flavor from Japan.  One of our initial reasons for starting World of Snacks was to explore unique snacks from around the world and there is not location with a wider variety of unique snacks than the country of Japan.

This is not a the first time we have sampled a Japanese Doritos flavor and it will certainly not be our last!  Our first experience was a review of Japanese Doritos Corn Potage.  This was a part of Frito Lays Gourmet line and we loved them, even though we initially had know idea what Corn Potage was!  Our review today, from what we can deduct, is of Three Cheese Doritos.  

The reason we are deducting and are not for certain is that we do not know how to read Japanese and this package (unlike the last) is completely in Japanese.  We seated our normal avenues for information and came up dry.  If you are able to read Japanese and we have this flavor wrong please do not hesitate to let us know!  Besides being completely in Japanese the packaging is tastefully done in a bright yellow that hosts images of three cheese on a cutting board.  The cheese appear to be Swiss, Cheddar, and Parmesan.  Enough about his this foreign Doritos look, let's get on to the taste test!

....these taste exactly like Cheddar Sun Chips combined with Cool Ranch Doritos

WIth the scarcity and difficulty in obtaining Doritos from Japan we chose to keep the test group small.   In fact, the taste testers consisted of only myself and our 10 year old Director of Taste.  If you are from the US his initial response paints an accurate picture.  He said these taste exactly like Cheddar Sun Chips combined with Cool Ranch Doritos.  I have to say, he is right!  The flavor is pleasant, just cheesy enough, and overall the snack is enjoyable. The chip is a little thicker than the american market and like the Corn Potage Doritos it had a mild sticky texture.  We both really enjoyed the Three Cheese Doritos. My son said he could eat them everyday. I liked them, but the flavor was not exotic enough for the scarcity of the snack.

Will World of Snacks offer Three-Cheese Doritos from Japan when we launch our international snack store later this year?  We are unsure, but hope to do so. We plan on dedicating an entire section of our store to rare Doritos from around the world.  If we can locate a good supplier with reasonable pricing we will for sure offer this flavor.  We are getting closer to the launch of our store.  Be sure to submit your details to the right for a notification of the grand opening.  Keep snacking!
