Taiwan is the latest country to be added to our growing list of destinations. This makes the 28th country for World of Snacks to sample treats from. Our goal is to locate the very best candy, cookies, chocolates, gummies, and cakes from all around the world. Once we find them, we will offer these international snacks for sale online in the US with shipping to pretty much everywhere. On January 1st we will officially launch our foreign snack store and at that time we will be stocking snacks from England. After that, every month we will add a new country to our store and of course restock our inventory for all countries offered. Now on with the review! The snack going under review today is produced by a company called Choice Finee, Inc and they have offices in both the US and Taiwan. With a strong US base I suspect this treat may not be a truly authentic Taiwanese snack. Instead I feel it may be made for the US market. We’ve run into this once before with Eiffel Bon Bon’s. Also the company’s slogan is “New and innovative products for desserts and specialty drinks.” So, this may not be a snack at all. It may just be a desert toping! Lets take a look at Rainbow Mochi from Taiwan and see what we can find out. Our Rainbow Mochi comes in a light blue package and reads Mochi, Crafted with Korean Formula. There are two playful child-like cartoons, one with a hammer, and a clear heart shaped window with some foreign writing. Sadly I am not sure what it reads. Inside you can see a ton of the Mochi in a variety of colors, in fact a rainbow of colors. There is also a partition breaking this 10oz snacks into three sections. At the start of our taste test of the Rainbow Mochi from Taiwan, our testers were still unsure of exactly what Mochi was. We dove in anyway! Rainbow Mochi taste like very fruity small marshmallows. They almost have a fluffy soft gum consistency, so we could tell they were not actual marshmallows. All testers involved did like the treat, but we are not sure if it can stand on it’s own. That brings us back to the feeling that Mochi is a topping of some sort. After a little more research, we did confirm our suspicions. Mochi is often put on ice cream and used as an ingredient in other snacks. Also interesting side note, this snack that reads Korean formula and is made in Taiwan, is really a Japanese treat! Will World of Snacks stock this mystery of a desert topping (or ingredient) in our online snack store? No, Rainbow Mochi from Taiwan will not be offered for sale, unless we find a true authentic version from one of the countries in question. There are two reasons we decided to start World of Snacks. The first was to make getting snacks from England easier (it’s where I grew up) and the second reason was to try some of the delicious foreign snacks that are only found in Japan. Well starting January 1st our international snack store will start selling British Snacks and we’ll ship them anywhere in the world. From there we will add a new country at the beginning of each month. The country we are most excited to add to our store is Japan.
To be honest we were unsure of the flavor we were sampling. The package is white with light blue trim and has image of ice cubes. The ice cube symbol on Japanese Kit Kats means that it is an ice cream flavor. However, Kit Kat Japan makes several ice cream flavors and our Japanese is a little rusty. We did a little research and found the Cookies and Cream flavor comes in the same exact package. However the Cookies and Cream Kit Kat looks like a typical cookies and cream snack from anywhere in the world. Our candy under review was white with a pink or light tan hint to it. Turns out it’s the waffle cone. Enough of the back story- how does the Vanilla Ice Cream Kit Kat taste?
10/9/2014 UPDATE: This snacks has been re-released and now offered for sale online!
Halloween is a sweet snack lovers dream in the US and it takes place at the end of this month! So we decided to start off October with a Halloween treat. Our international snack blog has toured around the world in search of some exciting and unusual snacks and no country has excited us more so than Japan. We are back in Japan tonight and we are sampling the Pumpkin Pudding Kit Kat. Japanese Kit Kats are like no other. They offer a wide variety of seasonal and limited production flavors. We are hoping to try every flavor in production and offer Japanese Kit Kats for sale in the US and worldwide when we launch our international snack store. So far we have tried Kit Kat Blueberry Cheesecake, Kit Kat Brown Sugar, and the Black Kit Kat known in Japan as Otona no Amasa. Our special Halloween themed Kit Kat for this review is the Pumpkin Pudding Kit Kat. We are sampling a Pumpkin Pudding Kit Kat that features Halloween themed colors as well as a ghost, jack-o-lantern, and a witch. This rare Kit Kat flavor also comes with a cute Devil to stay true to the Halloween theme. Although we have called this Pumpkin Pudding Kit Kat we have also seen it referred to as the Pumpkin Vanilla Kit Kat. Nestle also produced a Pumpkin Cheesecake flavor, but we are sure this is not it. Being we are not fluent in Japanese we went with the flavor that seemed most acknowledged online. Now on to the snack review. Our most previous review of a Japanese Kit Kat was the Blueberry Cheesecake Flavor, something we are over the top about and truly love. After sampling that snack we were unsure if we’d ever be able to enjoy another Kit Kat to that level. Guess what? We were wrong! The Japanese Kit Kat Pumpkin Pudding Flavor is amazing, and most of our testers don’t even care for Pumpkins. We have no idea why these delicious flavors are not offered in the US and we hope it stays that way (so we can make money). The chocolate is smooth and creamy; the wafer is like all Kit Kats, crunchy and firm. The filling and flavor between the wafers though is what truly sets it off. The Pumpkin is subtle and accented by a hint of cinnamon. The pudding, well it could be Pumpkin Vanilla because most basic pudding is vanilla to begin with, but it compliments the snack nicely. Will World of Snacks offer the Pumpkin Pudding Kit Kat from Japan when we launch our international snack store at the end of the year? We definitely hope so! Now that we are getting closer to our launch date we are firming up our deals with our suppliers. We are hoping to offer every single flavor of Kit Kat from Japan that we can get our hands on. If you’d like to be notified when our online foreign snack store launches be sure to leave your details to the right or follow us on Facebook!
World of Snacks was created to sample international treats from across the globe. Our first hope was to have snacks from our childhoods spent overseas readily available. The second purposes was to explore cultures through junk food in an effort to connect with current friends (and new friends) all around the world. The third purpose, to get a hold of the crazy snacks offered in Japan! No other country's snacks have us intrigued more so than Japan and we know we are not alone. Today Yahoo featured an article on the new Pepsi Flavored Cheetos. This sparked a furry of contacts to our company saying we must have the Pepsi Flavored Cheetos. Well, they are on the way to our Florida snack headquarters and we hope to have our review of the Pepsi Cheetos posted soon. Until then, let's take a look at the BBQ Cheetos from Japan. The BBQ Cheetos from Japan are literally the best tasting chips that we have found anywhere in the world- so far Although we have sampled many snacks from Japan recently we still have not picked up the language. So we are assuming these are BBQ Cheetos from Japan but are not 100% certain. The shinny gold package has a picture of what appears to be a BBQ pork chop or ribs, bell peppers, and corn on the cob. The only English printed reads Chester Cheetah next to his image and the Frito Lay brand in the corner with a strange slogan that says "Pop Your Time". Being we are ecstatic to even posses the BBQ Cheetos in the US we are going to rip this bag open and start our international snack review. Generally we start our write ups with small observations and then build up to the review but this time we will start with a bang. The BBQ Cheetos from Japan are literally the best tasting chips that we have found anywhere in the world- so far. They are amazing! The package lead us to believe we'd be tasting a whole meal, and guess what? We did! Frito Lay has packed so many flavors on to one small Cheeto. It's zesty and sweet with a char-grilled flavor. If eaten slowly and deliberately each flavor can be tasted individually but combined it's truly an experience. We had three taste testers present tonight and we almost fought over the bag. Will World of Snacks offer the BBQ Cheetos from Japan for sale in the US? Absolutely! We intend to get as many unique flavors of Cheetos that we can get our hands on. Although this is our first unique foreign Cheetos sample we know there will be many more to come in the near future. Visit our international snack store and leave your details if you'd like to be notified when we officially open for business!
We are back reviewing another exciting snack for our international snack blog and it seems we just can not stay out of Japan! This review is our 8th postings for delicious Japanese Snacks and our third unique Kit Kat from Japan tasting. So far everything we have tasted from this Asian country has been to our liking. Let's see if the Kit Kat Blueberry Cheesecake flavor will keep the streak of successful snack tastings alive. Our previous Japanese Kit Kat reviews consist of the Black Kit Kat and a Brown Sugar Kit Kat. For this international snack review we are taking a close look at Kit Kat Blueberry Cheesecake by Nestle. Generally we take time to look at the manufacturer of the snack but Nestle is a global power house and if you are curious about their history and product offerings you can visit any one of our other Japanese Kit Kat reviews. Besides, we are way to excited to get one with the tasting. So let's take a look at the Blueberry Kit Kat! For this foreign snack review even the packaging has us excited. The cool blue colors, the colorful floating flowers, the cheesecake image, and a giant blue mountain! We are tearing at the wrapper as we type this. One things the Japanese Snack Market does much better than the US counterpart is build anticipation prior to opening the package. Enough about how it looks, let's taste the Kit Kat Blueberry Cheesecake from Japan.
Will World of Snacks offer Kit Kat Blueberry for sale when we launch our international snack store later this year? Yes... Yes... Yes! Even if we have to fly to Japan to purchase this snack in person we will be sure to have the delicious Japanese Blueberry Cheesecake Kit Kat available for purchase.
Buckle up snack fans, we are flying into Asia today to review a Korean Snack for our international snack blog. Last time we reviewed a snack from South Korea we took at look at Nongshim Shrimp Flavored Crackers. Our review of that snack was one of our first salty snack reviews. This review is our first sweet snack from Korea and we are looking forward to it!
Upon opening the package we discovered a small light colored cake that looks a little similar to miniature muffin. Lucky our test group only consisted of two tasters, this Korean snack is not meant to be shared. To peak inside prior to the test we broke our Lotte Custard Cream Cake in half. The cream was not as smooth as I would assume but the cake was moist and had a pleasant texture. The flavor was more mild than I anticipated but it was very welcomed. The cake is not overpowering and neither is the filling. The overall flavor was very subdued but we both found the snack very enjoyable. It did hint to the flavor of a Hostess Twinkie but seemed a little more grown up. Although our 10 year old Director of Taste enjoyed it as much as I did.
Will World of Snacks incorporate Lotte Custard Cream Cakes into our regular inventory when we launch our international snack store later this year? Chances are you will be able to purchase this Korean/Japanese snack on a regular basis. To be notified of our grand opening be sure to leave your details to the right. Keep on snacking! Today our international snack blog is reviewing a unique Doritos flavor from Japan. One of our initial reasons for starting World of Snacks was to explore unique snacks from around the world and there is not location with a wider variety of unique snacks than the country of Japan.
Get ready we are heading back to Asia for this week's international snack review. Although we've traveled through flavors all across the Asian content and it's surrounding islands, this is our first visit to Singapore. However, we are reviewing a snack that is manufactured in Singapore, by a company we already know is Japanese owned company. So let's take a look at his Singaporean/Japanese snack.
Will World of Snacks offer Yan Yan Chocolate Cream by Meiji in our normal inventory? We imagine so, being we are already fans of the snack. When our international snack store launches later this year, we don't intended to offer a designated Singapore food section just yet, but you'll definitely find these in our selection of Japanese snacks. If you'd like to be notified of our grand opening be sure to submit your details to the right of follow along on our Facebook page.
![]() At last World of Snacks has located unique Doritos from Japan! Prior to creating our Global Snack Blog we’ve read articles and heard rumors about certain flavors of Doritos that are only available in Japan. When we say only available in Japan, we mean it! It is nearly impossible to track these chips down and acquiring them has been both time consuming and costly. But guess what? It’s totally worth it! We’ve been able to locate a handful of weird and rare flavors of Doritos and over the next few weeks we will be highlighting them all. We decided to start our review with what we thought would be the least exciting, Doritos Corn Potage. The Corn Potage flavor from Japan is a part of the Doritos Gourmet line and appear to be a limited edition. The packaging is crisp and attractive in a shinny black bag with the “gourmet” text in a reflective hologram foil. The package is mostly in Japanese but has a few key words inscribed in English. But enough about the bag,- how do they taste? In the United States corn potage doesn’t exist. After a little research we’ve determined it’s a corn soup with a cream base. In Japan the dish is so popular it’s even available in vending machines. This is why you will not see Corn Potage Doritos available for sale in the US, other than in the World of Snacks international snack store. We were so excited to sample these Japanese Doritos that our test panel consisted of 10 people, the most we have utilized for a sample group so far. After our test, it was a unanimous vote, these chips were delicious and must be offered on our website! The chips are a little thicker than a US Doritos and they have a semi-sticky texture, which is unlike any chip we have previous sampled. The flavor is sweet and savory and tastes exactly like cream style corn. Although we chose this snack to start with thinking it would be the least exciting, they are outrageously delicious. I think our association with corn chips made the concept of Corn Potage Doritos not initially exciting. However, these chips are not your everyday corn chip and are unlike any US chip flavor. We are in the process of securing a supplier and hope to offer many rare and unique Doritos Flavors from Japan when our international snack store launched towards the end of the year. Stay tuned for more daring international Doritos reviews in the very near future on worldofsnacks.com. |
